Infertile patients with premenstrual mastodynia (PMDY) have often a moderate hyperprolacinemia (i.e. values > 500 μU/ml) during the midluteal phase and this is associated with low serum progesterone. Women who do not suffer under PMDY have normal prolactin and progesterone values This indicates that latent hyperprolactinemia is often associated with a corpus luteum insufficiency
