Aims and scope

Clinical Phytoscience is an international, peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary, and open access journal publishing high quality research articles on clinical evidence and use of medicinal plants in the development of efficient and well tolerated phytotherapy.

Clinical Phytoscience focuses on phytotherapy, looking at proof of concept, efficacy and safety, to be established “at eye level” compared to pharmacotherapy. The emphasis lies on application oriented topics (efficacy and safety of phytotherapy in a specific indication, including its need and acceptance by the patient). The scientific results published in the journal should contribute to the recovery and maintenance of human health by phytotherapy.

Clinical Phytoscience will publish high-quality evidence-based clinical studies and relevant pharmacological studies. Key areas of interest are:

  • Upper and lower airways, ENT and pneumology
  • Gynecology
  • Urology
  • Nephrology
  • Pediatrics
  • Intestinal tract
  • Hepatology
  • Diabetes/metabolic Syndrome
  • Immunology and microbiology
  • Hygiene
  • Analytics

The journal publishes original contributions, review articles and short communications (letters). Articles are published after a rigorous and independent peer-review by an international board of experts. The journal is directed at medical doctors in clinic and practice and pharmacologists.

Clinical Phytoscience does not accept purely descriptive pre-clinical work without translational aspects for publication. All manuscripts need to include:
•     Statistical analysis
•     Titration of the extracts
•     Repetition of experiments
•     Validation in vivo

COVID-19 and impact on peer review

As a result of the significant disruption that is being caused by the COVID-19 pandemic we are very aware that many researchers will have difficulty in meeting the timelines associated with our peer review process during normal times.  Please do let us know if you need additional time. Our systems will continue to remind you of the original timelines but we intend to be highly flexible at this time.

Bionorica Phytoneering Award

Announcement Bionorica Phytoneering Award

The Bionorica Phytoneering Award acknowledges outstanding research in the field of development and application of herbal medicinal products.

The purpose of the award is to motivate primarily young scientists (normally younger than 45 years of age) to perform research in phytomedicine focusing on the following areas:

  • generally any new discovery and innovative application related to phytomedicine
  • pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of herbal medicinal products and their active principles
  • clinical research in the areas of respiratory tract infections, inflammation, womenʼs health, pain, oncology and metabolic syndrome
  • safety and pharmacovigilance studies

Scientists or research groups of universities and other non-commercial scientific institutions are entitled to apply.

The Bionorica Phytoneering Award 2021 will be granted during the congress of the Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research (Gesellschaft für Arzneipflanzen- und Naturstoff-Forschung e. V. (GA)). The award-winning scientific results will be presented during the congress in a lecture.

The Bionorica Phytoneering Award is endowed with 10,000 €.

Scientific publications on a specific topic which have been published during the last three years can be considered. They must be submitted along with an accompanying document explaining the significance and relevance of the submitted publications in the broader scientific context, a CV, and a list of publications.

Deadline for submissions is 31st May 2021
